Keeping It Simple - Happy Birthday
I created a simple card using 1 stamp set 'BEST BIRTHDAY EVER' & 3 ink pads.
It’s a good idea to decide your ink colours first & don’t be tempted to use them in equal quantities! One easy technique is to use them as 1st, 2nd, 3rd. 1st is the majority colour, 2nd is supporting act & 3rd for highlights. I went for red as main colour, yellow as second & navy for the sentiment.
I used generational stamping with the red ink and the HAPPY BIRTHDAY sentiment to give a textured background. This is an easy technique and gives you another tonal colour. It simply means inking your stamp, then stamping on the card twice so you get a lighter tone with the second stamping.
I wiped the yellow ink pad on an acrylic block & spritzed with water, then used a fan brush to add splatters to my background. Again another technique to get more from your ink pads!
Background finished, I trimmed it into a square 0.5cm smaller than a square piece of navy card, then stuck the 2 pieces together. This simple technique is known as “matting”; it frames your background, as well as creating a bit of dimension & added visual interest.
I stamped the sentiment in navy ink & fussy cut it out, then used 3D pads to adhere it to the centre of the red stamped panel.
If you have any sequins, stars or mini jewels, now’s the time to add them. Try to keep them in a triangular shape - odd numbers (particularly 3) work best in a design as they keep the eye moving. This is because the brain naturally tries to pair items & the eyes keep moving around the triangular shape.
