The Mad Hatter
Tutorial
I began by making my tent fold base card. Using 300gsm black card I made a card base measuring approx 14x14cm. I also cut 3 circles using a circle cutter, white approx 13.5cm diameter, black slightly bigger and another white slightly bigger than the black.
On watercolour card I stamped the main image from THE MAD HATTER stamp set in versafine onyx black and clear heat embossed using Wow! Clear embossing powder. I also stamped the “haha” stamp 3 times in versafine morning mist and also clear heat embossed.
Using the accompanying dies I die cut my stamped images using my big shot machine.
I then coloured in Mad Hatter using zig clean colour waterbrush pens. I chose bright colours and also used water to pull out the colour to add light and shade. When the ink was dry I went round the edge of all my die cut pieces with black posca pen.
Choosing the smallest white circle I blended lost shadow and hickory smoke distress oxides through the MULTIVERSE stencil and outlined the shapes in black fine liner.
Next I cut 2 white card panels. One to fit behind my circle panel and one to fit on the base of my card. These were both cut slightly smaller than the main black card blank so there would be a black border on assembling the card.
On these small panels I again used MULTIVERSE stencil, I drew round the shapes using the watercolour brush pens in the same colours I used for the mad hatter. I then added a little water and blended the colours from the outside in towards the centre of each shape. When dry I outlined the shapes using black fineliner.
The sentiments were stamped on black card using versamark and heat embossed in Wow! Bright white embossing powder. They were then cut out leaving a narrow black border.
To assemble the card I adhered the coloured stencilled panels to the tent fold card base. The panel to be behind the circles I used glue and the panel on the card base I used foam pads to give height. Using glue I then mat and layered the 3 circle panels and then glued them to the front of the folded card base ensuring I only glued the bottom half of the circle panel which would be in contact with the folded part of the card.
I then positioned the mad hatter, background elements and sentiments. When I was happy with how it all looked I stuck it all down using a combination foam pads for height and glue for flat layers. Wink of Stella was added to the hat of the mad hatter and also the coloured stencilled shapes to give a lovely shimmer.
