Decorative Cube
As well as cards, I do like to make pieces of home décor. The new ‘Decorative Cube’ is perfect if you want a craft project to do or to create a piece of art for the home. For this make I’ve used the cube alongside 6 fab new stencils – ‘Inky Daisy’, ‘My Home’, ‘Happy Thoughts’, ‘Eye Contact Mini’, ‘Wavy Lines’ and ‘Impossible Triangle’.
Tutorial
To get started I took the cube and pieced it together carefully using Cosmic Shimmer acrylic glue.
I then painted the whole cube in two layers of white gesso.
Whilst this dried I cut 6 pieces of card (10cm x 10cm) and sprayed them with ‘Shaded Lilac’, ‘Tumbled Glass’, ‘Salvaged Patina’, ‘Twisted Citron’, ‘Squeezed Lemonade’, ‘Saltwater Taffy’ and ‘Kitsch Flamingo’ distress spray stain. The colours were topped up with some distress inks in the same colours before using a water sprayer to create some water droplets on them all.
Up next, I earmarked a stencil for each piece of card. I then took each stencil in turn to create a side for the cube. For 4 of the sides I blended Versafine Clair ‘Nocturne’ black ink through the stencil which was heat embossed with Wow superfine clear gloss embossing powder. For the other 2 sides I used Distress opaque grit paste.
- Impossible Triangle – Versafine Clair ‘Nocturne’ black ink
- Wavy Lines – Distress opaque grit paste
- Eye Contact Mini – Versafine Clair ‘Nocturne’ black ink
- Happy Thoughts – Versafine Clair ‘Nocturne’ black ink
- My Home – Versafine Clair ‘Nocturne’ black ink & Versafine Clair ‘Strawberry’ red ink
- Inky Daisy – Distress opaque grit paste & Wow metallic gold rich superfine embossing powder
Example 1
For the ‘Inky Daisy’ stencil I blended Distress opaque grit paste through the stencil onto the background. Some Wow metallic gold rich superfine embossing powder was then heat set in the centre of the daisy to give a lovely shimmer. The image for the ‘Wavy Lines’ stencil was created in the same way (minus the heat embossing).
Example2
For the ‘Eye Contact Mini’ stencil side to the cube once the ink was heat embossed I coloured in the eye using polychromos pencils. Some white posca pen and glossy accents were used to highlight the eye in more detail.
Once all the cards for the sides of the cube had been created these were adhered to each side of the cube using acrylic glue. Finally, some wink of stella pen, white ink, and some sequins were added to provide further interest to the decorative cube.
This is such a fun project to do and I can’t wait to make another.
