Winter Colours Card
This weeks Design Team inspiration theme is Winter Colours and my colour palette is taken from an actual photo I took back in February this year.
I absolutely love the colours I have chosen and decided to pair them with the fabulous SKETCHED BAUBLES STAMP SET. I kept the design fairly simple to show off this versatile stamp set and also allowing the inky background to shine through.
Tutorial
I created the first layer of my background by lightly misting a piece of 15x15cm 300gsm smooth white card with water and then giving it a few sprays of Antique Linen distress spray. I added a bit more water, tilted the card and allowed it to spread and run. I then dried the card.
The next few colour layers were created by adding my chosen colours directly to my craft liner, spritzing with water to make the ink bead and then tapping the card panel repeatedly into the ink. I did this one ink at a time, drying between layers to create a beautiful organic, textured background.
To end the inky play I spattered some water over the card and dabbed off with kitchen towel to create those white spots and then spattered a few drops of Uncharted Mariner distress spritz. I then dried the card panel.
For the next layer of my background I brushed Iced Spruce distress ink through FROSTY stencil in a few different areas, not completely over the whole panel.
Now for the main event! Make sure your background is fully dry. I used both the baubles from SKETCHED BAUBLES for this. Stamping them in versamark and heat embossing with Wow! Superfine Polished Gold. I did one or two at a time so I didn’t make a mess and then stamped and embossed the bauble “tops”. I finished by stamping the string in versafine clair Pinecone.
Next I added some white spatters and “shine marks” onto the baubles using Dr Ph Martins bleedproof white paint.
I also added depth underneath the baubles using a brown Inktense watercolour pencil and blending it with water. This really brought the baubles to life. A little touch of gold gel pen was added to the strings for a little sparkle.
I then decided the panel was missing something so I stamped parts of the numbers from DISTRESSED CHRISTMAS in a few places along the edges and corners of the card using versafine clair Portobello. Then using a little distressing tool I roughed up the edges of the panel before applying a light covering of versafine clair twilight along the those distressed sides.
I chose to stamp and emboss the sentiment gold on black to really make an impact and layered this onto some gold mirror card leaving a tiny gold border.
The whole card was then assembled by matting and layering, gold mirror and black and adhering to the front of a 20x20cm card blank. The sentiments were attached using foam pads to raise them up.
I decided against further embellishing as I was really happy with the card as it was and wanted to let the beautiful baubles speak for themselves. I really love how this card has turned out and I’ll probably send it to my husband so I can see it on my mantelpiece throughout the festive season.
