Branch Out - Love / Romance Card

"Love” is the theme this week for my design team make and I’ve chosen to use an unused stencil I’ve had in my stash for quite a while, BRANCH OUT, along with my favourite go to sentiment set for any love/romance related cards, HAVE I TOLD YOU.

Tutorial

I took a piece of 15x15cm smooth white 300gsm card and placed the stencil over it securing them on my magnetic board. I brushed speckled egg distress oxide through the stencil and uncharted mariner around the edges.

Keeping the stencil in place I gave it a quick wipe to remove some of the excess ink and using a plastic palette knife ran translucent crackle paste through the stencil. I then carefully removed the stencil and washed it straight away using warm soapy water. I set aside the stencilled image to dry.

Taking a piece of scrap card I stamped my chosen sentiment from HAVE I TOLD YOU using versamark and sprinkled over wow! Metalline Himalayan musk embossing powder.

This was then heat embossed before cutting into strips and layering onto several pieces of black card to make a chunky sentiment tag.

Once the crackle paste was dry and had worked its magic I brushed through some dark ink, it really makes the crackles stand out if you do this. I used distress crayons but any ink will work.

For the little “love birds” I used the stencil again, applying opaque texture paste through the stencil and sprinkling wow! Polished silver embossing powder over the little bird. I removed the stencil and heat embossed straight away. It does make the texture paste bubble a little but I like the effect.

Next I cleaned and dried the stencil before positioning and reversing it so the bird was mirrored and repeated the paste/embossing. I also stamped and heat embossed a tiny heart from the sentiment set in the same Himalayan musk I used for the sentiment.

I trimmed down the card panel to roughly 14x14cm and decided to rough up the edges of using a little distress tool I’ve had for ages. I then took a 17x17cm card blank and glued slightly smaller textured dark grey card to the top of it leaving a narrow white border. I layered the card panel onto mirror card and again cut a narrow border around it.

This was then stuck onto the dark grey layer using foam pads to give height.

Finally the sentiment was stuck down using glue and a few flat back crystal gems added for a little sparkle.

I love how this card has turned out. On the face of it, it looks quite simple, but the little details of using crackle paste, embossing the birds & sentiment really make it something special.
